Since the election, I have seen so many people put misplaced faith, trust, and hope in the wrong things. Among those numbers are Christians which breaks my heart.
I was reminded of Psalm 146 which King David encourages us to place our trust in One who will never let us down and who will never lead us astray.
Put not your trust in princes,
in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.
When his breath departs, he returns to the earth;
on that very day his plans perish.Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord his God,
who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them,
who keeps faith forever;
who executes justice for the oppressed,
who gives food to the hungry.The Lord sets the prisoners free;
the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the sojourners;
he upholds the widow and the fatherless,
but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.The Lord will reign forever,
Psalm 146:3-10, ESV
your God, O Zion, to all generations.

John Calvin wrote of this passage, “Those who put their trust in men, depend upon a fleeting breath.”
“Observation itself proves that the schemes of princes are deep and complicated. That we may not fall, therefore, into the error of connecting our hopes with them, David says that the life of princes also passes away swiftly and in a moment, and that with it all their plans vanish,” he adds.
It’s foolish to put our trust in something so finite. Princes come and go. Presidents come and go. God is eternal.
They can’t solve society’s ills or right all of the wrongs in the world. God can.
“Those are happy who trust him, for they shall never be ashamed or confounded. The Lord never dies, neither do his thoughts perish: his purpose of mercy, like himself, endures throughout all generations,” Charles Spurgeon writes expanding on this passage.
“O how blessed a thing it is to know that God is our present help, and our eternal hope. Full assurance is more than heaven in the bud, the flower has begun to open. We would not exchange with Caesar; his sceptre is a bauble, but our bliss is true treasure,” he proclaims.
Blessed is the one who puts his or her trust in Him, it is never misplaced.
