Joshua 24: 15…
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
Notice that Joshua not only warned Israel against rejecting Jehovah, he also told them what the alternatives were. They could serve the traditional gods that their forefathers had served for 400 years, the gods of the Egyptians. Or they could serve the innovative gods that they discovered in their new land. We have the same choices today. There are many false gods that have been around for hundreds of years, some that date back at least to the time of the Ancient Egyptians. And there are new gods being invented all the time (“for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah”, Jeremiah 2:28b).
Today, in the U.S., there is an unprecedented run after new gods and ideas to save (or grow) the church. Or a clinging to the old gods of the nations. But there is one God. One Word of God. One Saviour and Lord. One Salvation. God has told us how to be saved. He has told us how we may approach Him. This is no time to innovate. Or stubbornly hold to tradition. We must seek the Lord and return to His Word.
