There are some in the emerging church camp that would say, “yes.” But I say no. Certainly the Bible is made up of more than just propositions. We have commands. We have questions. But you can’t deny the fact that the majority of the Bible is made up of propositions. Much of what we now about Jesus simply comes from propositions from the Bible we either hold to be true or false.
We should believe in the Person of Christ AND propositions about Him garnered from the Bible. Carl Henry said it well when he stated in his book God, Revelation and Authority that:
“The antithesis of ‘person-revelation’ and ‘proposition-revelation’ can only result in an equally unscriptural contrast of personal faith with doctrinal belief. It is now often said that belief in Christ is something wholly different from belief in truths or propositions. But to lose intelligible revelation spells inescapable loss of any supernatural authorized doctrinal assertions concerning God.”
