That seems to be what is going on lately with people on the left, and today they sunk to a new low.  I’ve been enjoying my Saturday today so am late on this.  I first saw the statement from Meg Stapleton, Governor Sarah Palin’s spokesperson on Facebook.

Yet again, some so-called journalists have decided to make up a story. There is no truth to the recent “story” (and story is the correct term for this type of fiction) that the Palins are divorcing. The Palins remain married, committed to each other and their family, and have not purchased land in Montana (last week it was reported to be Long Island).

Less than one week ago, Governor Palin asked the media to “quit making things up.” We appreciate that the more professional journalists decided to question this story before repeating it.

I wasn’t sure what she was talking about until I saw over at Conservatives 4 Palin that the Alaska Report is saying they are divorcing.  Here’s another link just in case they decide to scrub their website.  This “article” (and I’m using that word very loosely) was written by a Dennis Zaki who not only owns the Alaska Report, but also calls himself a stringer for CNN.  So he’s a journalist who should know better.

I love Governor Palin’s official response given later this afternoon to R.S. McCain via phone:

Divorce Todd? Have you seen Todd? I may be just a renegade hockey mom, but I’m not blind!

Joseph Russo over at Conservatives 4 Palin shares why it’s important for the Palin camp even though it was “just a blog,” when in responding to Politico’s Jonathan Martin’s assertion that making a statement guarantees press coverage.

Was Mr. Martin around during the campaign? The rules are different when it comes to the media covering Governor Palin. Mr. Martin, do you remember this?
– Palin banned books.
– Palin said that she believed that dinosaurs and humans co-existed.
– Palin charged victims for rape kits
– Trig Palin is not the governor’s son.
And where did all of these things, among others, originate? Blogs, usually with unnamed sources.

Oh heck, what’s a little libel as far as the Palin’s are concerned.

Update: Andrienne wrote a great post exposing and disarming this latest rumor as well.  Go check it out.

Update II: Robert Stacey McCain at The American Spectator reminds journalists who are inclined to forget J-School 101 – “If Your Mother Says She Loves You, Check It Out.”  Even though I didn’t end up finishing my J-School degree at Drake University I do remember that lesson.

Update III: Conservative bloggers need some help.  We just need sources, like liberal bloggers, come on give us some sources!

Update IV: Pundette has an answer to the dilemma above… we can cite each other as sources!  Sweet!

Update V: Lisa was entertained by crap rolling uphill.  It is amazing isn’t Lisa?

Update VI: Simon Owens just emailed me that Zaki (the Alaska Report “article” author) is standing by his story.  Has he heard of libel right, especially a case that could be actionable?  I couldn’t be confident of a story that has an anti-Palin blog as a source that uses “unnamed source” as a source.  Incredible.
