Yep, my Hawkeyes  earned the Cy-Hawk trophy back.  Boring first half – Iowa only led 3-0 at halftime, but picked it up in the second with a Green TD run, and a Brodell 81-yd punt return for a touchdown.  ISU scored a field goal, and Iowa gave them a safety at the end of the game in order to play it safe.

I give the defense an A.  They played hard, and they played a lot – were out on the field for most of the 3rd quarter.  No touchdowns allowed in three games.  Very good.  They carried the offense for most of the game, and stopped Iowa State in the red zone three times.  This game would have looked a lot different if it weren’t for that.

I give the offense a C.  It’s nice that you wracked up a lot of points against Florida International and Maine, but now we are getting into the real schedule.  Shonn Greene was a standout today running for this third consecutive 100 yard plus game (120 yards).  I was glad to see Jake Christensen go in for Ricky Stazi after a dismal first half and third quarter with two interceptions.  I think Jake earned his starting job back.  We’ll see.

I was impressed with Iowa State’s new quarterback, Austen Arnaud.  He threw for 224 yards.  Their place kicking needs working going 1/4 for the game.

It was ugly, but an ugly win is still a win.
