Seven kids get busted for underage drinking at Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Marsha Ternus house according to KCCI TV:

"We got a call about 1:30 on early Sunday morning about disturbing the peace–somebody was having a louder than normal party," said Deputy Jana Rooker, Polk County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

Rooker said a Polk County deputy checked on the party at the home of Iowa Supreme Court Justice Marsha Ternus in rural Polk County. A deputy’s report shows he found one bonfire, seven 19-year-olds and countless beer cans.

"The deputy noticed in the back yard by the bonfire several individuals and several different kinds of beer cans laying in the ground, on the ground, and some also in the bonfire itself, and then also in the vehicles that were parked behind the residence," said Rooker.

The deputy writes that Ternus’s husband, Denny Drake, who is a lawyer, initially allowed the deputy onto their property, and soon asked the deputy to leave.

"The deputy started speaking to the individuals who are teenagers in the backyard. And once he started to do that and started to take notes, it’s my understanding that the older adult that he did encounter in the driveway then stated he was going to return to the residence, and the deputy wasn’t done with his investigation at that time and requested that he not do that; then he insisted on returning to the residence, and I believe at that time the deputy did arrest him for interference with official acts," said Rooker.

The deputy ticketed Drake for interference with official acts.

The deputy charged seven 19-year-olds with possession of alcohol while under 21 and public intoxication, five of them were taken jail, including Ternus’ son.

She may not know or have even been there when this was going on.  Her husband obviously did know and I find it laughable that he tried to get the Deputy to leave when he was there investigating a complaint.  I wonder why this took so long to get out, and why the Des Moines Register wasn’t on top of this.  I mean a whole work week has gone by…  Hmmm…  If this were a conservative person would they have gotten the same treatment?

If Chief Justice Ternus was there and if she had knowledge of this party, well it really, really doesn’t look good.

Update 8:52pm: It gets a mention in the Chicago Tribune via AP.  Still nothing from the Des Moines Register.

Update: 10:05pm: Finally the Des Moines Register reports it… at 9:25pm according to my feed reader.
