I have been irritating, frustrating, and depressing two atheists who have been commenting on my previous threads about atheism. One of them has fallen into chanting “baseless argument” whenever anything I say presupposes God exists. But what Christian would start with the premise that maybe God doesn’t exist? I don’t wake up doubting the existence of my great, great, grandfather Potts.
The two agnostics/atheists want the home court advantage and I generally refuse to give it to them. Each of them (JG and Evid3nc3, aka Chris Redford) want me to think that they are just honest rational creatures who just want to know the truth about God. They bristle at anything the Bible says, especially those things which bear on the subject at hand. For example, the Bible teaches that the atheist doesn’t really exist. That is, all men know that God exists. Those that claim or believe otherwise are either lying or are willfully deceived. They know God exists because:
…the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. (Romans 1:18-21)
We are at an impasse. You see, all human reasoning is circular. It starts with assumptions it cannot prove. Only God Himself knows all. The rest of us are dependent. The Christian can’t really prove God exists and the atheist can’t prove He doesn’t. Some atheists start with another assumption: That the existence of God is a matter of evidence. That they would believe, if only it could be proven to them that He exists. Let us test this premise.
Please tell us Chris and any other takers, what evidence will you accept as proof positive that God exists?
