Former Rick Santorum (R-PA) was the last prospective presidential candidate to speak at the 11th Annual Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition Spring Event at Point of Grace Church in Waukee, IA.

Talked about his grandfather who came to America from Italy to pursue prosperity and freedom, “to do what God has called us to do.”  He said America is about an idea, “it has to be about shared values otherwise what is it.”  He said we can’t call a truce on our values.

He said “once you stick your neck out on social issues” you are label.  He cited times not only did he work on prolife issues, but also worked on reforming entitlement programs and working on national security issues.  Talking about our threats he said he are not at war with terror, but we are at war with jihadists.  He has worked toward helping bring freedom to Iran and he criticized President Obama for standing with the mullahs instead of the people of Iran.

He said he was labeled “ultra” (conservative) because he stood for our values, standing up for life, fighting against the partial-birth abortion law.  He said for the first time since Roe v. Wade opinion toward abortion began to change as a result of that battle.  When this bill was passed it was the first time any abortion was restricted and Congress for the first time regarding abortion that the Supreme Court was wrong.

He promised to talk about the Born Alive Protection Act (Santorum’s bill) which was duplicated in numerous state legislatures.  He will challenge President Obama on why he doesn’t support it.  “There was only one person who stood up on any floor of a State Senate to oppose this bill and he currently the President of the United States.”  Santorum asked, “now who is the extremist on abortion.”

He challenged the entitlement mentality and said that what we are doing to our nation is a moral issue.  He said liberals believe that “Americans love their entitlements” and that they once we get hooked on them we won’t want to give them up.

He said one lesson that he has learned through his wars in the Senate is that if you are faithful and do your part, God will be faithful to us..
