Caffeinated Thoughts reported Friday that the Dallas County Republican Party passed a resolution calling for the defunding and investigation of Planned Parenthood. They are one of four county parties to pass such a resolution. Caffeinated Thoughts later learned that the resolution barely passed on a 14 to 13 vote.
Once central committee member told Caffeinated Thoughts that no one on the committee other than the chair knew this resolution was going to be introduced. He also said that some in the committee wanted to see the resolution in writing rather than it just being read. There were also some who wanted the party to focus on electing Republicans rather than passing resolutions.
Some wanted the executive committee to discuss the resolution and work out some of the details before it was brought to a vote. One person became visibly upset and left before the vote.
Joel Kurtinitis, who introduced the resolution, acknowledged the division. “There was a lot of division, much more than I expected for something that is clearly and completely supported by the Republican party platform. Each objection was prefaced by the assurance that the objector was staunchly pro-life, but…(fill in the objection),” Kurtinitis told Caffeinated Thoughts in a message on Facebook.
“I don’t doubt the sincerity of their convictions, I just feel that we should learn as a group to voice our activism both individually and as a group,” Kurtinitis added.
