Former U.S. Senator and 2012 Iowa Caucus winner Rick Santorum (R-PA) took aim at the current frontrunner in Iowa, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), in a new TV ad entitled âFairytales.â
The ad begins showing Cruz reading Dr. Seussâ âGreen Eggs and Hamâ during a filibuster on the Senate floor in 2013.
The ad then contrasts Santorumâs record in the U.S. Senate. The Santorum campaign pointed out during Santorumâs time in the U.S. Senate from 1995 to 2007 he served eight years on the Armed Services Committee, was the author of the sanctions against Iran, and has been outspoken while in the Senate and after on the dangers of a nuclear Iran and Islamic terrorism.
The Santorum campaign said âFairytalesâ will air on all platforms (network, cable, and digital) across Iowa beginning this week.

Voiceover: Ted Cruz is wonderful at reading childrenâs fairytales on the Senate floor.
Rick Santorum spent his time in the Senate a little differently. 8 years on the Senate Armed Services Committee, helping to modernize todayâs army to better be prepared for todayâs threats. Santorum also wrote and passed tough laws putting harsh sanctions on Iran. And for more than a decade, Rick Santorum has been a leader and fighter⊠taking on radical Islam.
Santorum: âNot all Muslims are jihadists, but all jihadists are Muslims.â
Voiceover: You want someone to read one helluva bedtime story, Ted Cruz is your guy. If you want to protect America, and defeat ISIS, Rick Santorumâs your President. Because serious times need serious people.
Caffeinated Thoughts reached out to the Cruz campaign for comment, but never heard back. However U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), speaking to press at a campaign stop in Winterset, IA, on Monday said he was not going to engage in any back and forth.
âLook there has been more than a few insults and rocks thrown when it comes to the political race. I think itâs interesting, a couple of weeks ago almost every Republican candidate in the field was attacking Donald Trump. Today, almost every Republican candidate in the field is attacking me. I kind of suggest that maybe something has changed. From my perspective, then and now, I am not going to engage in the back and forth and the mudslinging and insults. I am going to keep my focus on the positive, optimistic conservative vision that I have for this country â on real solutions to the real problems,â Cruz said.
