(Des Moines, IA) Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed a proclamation Wednesday setting the date of a special election for August 8, 2017, for Iowa House District 82 following the recent death of State Representative Curt Hanson (D-Fairfield).

House District 82 is comprised of Davis, Van Buren and part of Jefferson counties. Iowa Code 69.14 outlines the authority given to the governor to set a special election. The proclamation setting the date of the special election is as follows:

SPECIAL ELECTION PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, The Office of State Representative from the 82nd Representative District of the Iowa General Assembly, consisting of the following areas:

A. Davis County, Iowa; and
B. Van Buren County, Iowa; and
C. In Jefferson County, Iowa:

  1. The City of Fairfield; and
  2. Black Hawk Township; and
  3. Cedar Township; and
  4. Center Township; and
  5. Des Moines Township; and
  6. Liberty Township; and
  7. Locust Grove Township; and
  8. Penn Township; and
  9. Polk Township.

            has become vacant by the reason of the death of Iowa State Representative Curt Hanson.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kim Reynolds, Governor of the State of Iowa, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the law, do hereby proclaim and direct that a special election to fill said vacancy shall be held within said District on

TUESDAY, THE EIGHTH DAY OF AUGUST, 2017, A.D.

WHEREFORE, all electors within said 82nd State Representative District will take due notice and the County Commissioners of Elections of said counties will take official notice as provided in Iowa Code § 39.6.
