DES MOINES, Iowa – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, on Monday announced that she will kick off her campaign for the U.S. Senate at the 5th AnnualĀ Roast and RideĀ on Saturday, June 15, 2019,Ā at the Central Iowa Expo in Boone.

ā€œIowans sent me to the Senate to make ā€˜em squeal; from cutting wasteful spending to eliminating special perks for Washington insiders, weā€™ve been working to do exactly that. But, our fight isnā€™t over and thereā€™s more work to be done,ā€Ā Ernst said.Ā ā€œJoin me on June 15th for our biggest Roast and Ride yet as we kick off our campaign for the U.S. Senate. Itā€™ll be a canā€™t-miss, family-friendly day to honor our veterans, enjoy Iowa BBQ and talk about our mission to continue to bring Iowa commonsense values to Washington.ā€

About the Ride

The day will start with a motorcycle ride to honor veterans and patriots.Ā Proceeds from the Ride willĀ benefitĀ Retrieving Freedom Inc.,Ā a non-profit organization with operations in Iowa that focuses on training service dogs to assist veterans and children with autism.

Registration for the Ride will open at 10:00 a.m. CT andĀ the program will start at 11:00 a.m.Ā from Big Barn Harley Davidson in Des Moines. The Ride will be escorted by local law enforcement to ensure safety. It will be about 49 miles, lasting approximately 65 minutes. The scenic Ride will pass Camp Dodge where Joni served in the Iowa National Guard. Riders will then proceed north, cross the Mile Long Bridge at Saylorville Lake and pass Big Creek State Park. At Madrid, riders will head west and cross the Des Moines River with a view of the famous High Trestle Trail Bridge before continuing on to Central Iowa Expo.

Participation in the Ride is included in theĀ ticket price.Ā 

Additionally, motorcycles are available for rent to licensed riders by contacting Big Barn Harley Davidson in Des Moines.

About the Roast

The Roast will take place at the Central Iowa Expo in Boone. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. CT and the program will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 (children 12 and under are free) and can be purchased atĀ RoastAndRide.com. Barbecue, beverages, parking, entertainment featuring Dave Fenley, as well as the option to participate in the Ride kick off in the price of admission.
