DES MOINES, Iowa – Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announced on Monday that Iowans set a record for most new business filings in a single year, for the fourth year in a row. During Fiscal Year 2019, which concluded on June 30, 24,720 new businesses filed with the Secretary of Stateā€™s Office. That is a 4.5 percent increase from last yearā€™s record high of 23,649.

ā€œIā€™m really excited about Iowa breaking another record this year with over 24,000 businesses started,ā€ Pate said. ā€œSmall businesses are the backbone of our great economy with over a quarter of a million of them making up the jobs in our state.”

The implementation of Fast Track Filing by Secretary Pate in 2018 allows new businesses to register with the state in just a few minutes. The process previously took as long as three weeks.
