MARION, Iowa – Ashley Hinson, Republican candidate for Congress in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, has raised more than $245,000 in the second quarter thus far and will report more than $1,000,000 cash on hand. The campaign has received more than 4,000 individual donations this quarter.

“Iowans want a representative who puts people over politics,” said Hinson. “The chaos and dysfunction we continue to see in Washington are unacceptable. Speaker Pelosi’s led House of Representatives response to the coronavirus has demonstrated the clear need Congress has for a dose of Iowa common sense.”

“We continue to see surges of small dollar donations to the campaign from all over the district,” said Hinson campaign manager Jimmy Peacock. “Ashley’s message is resonating, and we continue building the operation needed to maximize the incredible financial support the campaign continues to receive.”

National political forecasters believe that Iowa’s 1st Congressional District will be one of the most competitive races in 2020. The Cook Political Report has rated IA-01 as “Toss Up.”

Hinson’s financial supporters include Ernst Victory Iowa PAC (Sen. Joni Ernst), Majority Committee PAC (Leader Kevin McCarthy), Eye of the Tiger PAC (Rep. Steve Scalise), Cowboy PAC (Rep. Liz Cheney), E-PAC (Rep. Elise Stefanik), CMR PAC (Rep. Cathy McMorris-Rodgers), Susan PAC (Rep. Susan Brooks), Cut the Bull PAC (Rep. Carol Miller), Martha PAC (Rep. Martha Roby), The Freedom Project (Rep. John Boehner), ANN PAC (Rep. Ann Wagner) and VIEW PAC.

Hinson has a record of winning tough elections. She won in 2018 in a swing district to help hold the Iowa House majority and outperformed the Republican ticket by 5-8 points across Iowa House District 67. She won nine of 13 precincts in House District 67 despite Democratic outside groups outspending Republican outside groups.

An Iowa native, Hinson is the first woman to represent Iowa’s 67th House District, which covers Hiawatha, Robins, Cedar Rapids, and Marion. Before serving in the Iowa House, Hinson was an award-winning reporter and anchor for KCRG-TV9 in Cedar Rapids. She currently lives in Marion with her husband, Matt, and their two sons.
