DES MOINES, Iowa â U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, on Monday in a released video challenged her Democratic challenger, Theresa Greenfield, to six debates beginning in August.
âYou know, I havenât heard Theresa Greenfield say one thing that Chuck Schumer hasnât told her to say. And, thatâs not what Iowans expect in a leader. So Iâm challenging Ms. Greenfield to six debates. Two each month, starting in August. Letâs let Iowans hear what we have to say,â Ernst said in the video below.
The Ernst campaign accused Greenfield of following Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumerâs âwindowless basement strategy.â
According to a report, Schumer tells his Senate recruits that theyâll spend â16 months in a windowless basement raising money and then weâre going to spend 80 percent of it on negative ads.â
During the Democratic primary, Greenfield held the fewest events and had the least accessibility compared to the rest of the field.
Greenfieldâs campaign responded to Ernstâs challenge saying, ââOf course Theresa is going to debate Ernst.â
They did not commit to the number of debates or the time frame suggested by the incumbent U.S. Senator.
