U.S. Rep. Abby Finkenauer, D-Dubuque, and State Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Marion

MARION, Iowa – Republican nominee Ashley Hinson reports raising over $1,030,000 for the second quarter of 2020 in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District race. She also says she has $1,550,000 cash on hand in a record-breaking fundraising period. Following this quarter, Hinson has raised more money than any Republican Congressional candidate in the history of Iowa’s 1st Congressional District. Hinson added well over 8,550 first-time individual contributors, nearly doubling incumbent U.S. Rep Abby Finkenauer’s 4,600.

“I am elated by the outpouring of financial support for our campaign,” Ashley Hinson said. “It is clear that the chaos and dysfunction we’re seeing in Washington, D.C. on both sides of the aisle is unacceptable. Congress needs a dose of Iowa common sense and a leader who will prioritize Iowans and not the Washington establishment. Our message continues to resonate with voters in every corner of the district, and I’m excited we have the resources to carry us over the finish line in November.”

Finkenauer reports raising $875,000, falling short of Hinson’s quarter. Campaign manager Jimmy Peacock said, “This is exactly what a campaign looks like when you’re about to beat an incumbent who went outside the mainstream views of her district to pander to her party’s leaders. We have the resources to tell Ashley’s story and hold Congresswoman Finkenauer accountable to her failed leadership.”

After establishing her clear path to victory, Hinson is in the highest tier of the ‘Young Gun Program’ by the National Republican Congressional Committee. National political forecasters believe the 1st Congressional District will be one of the most competitive races in 2020. The Cook Political Report has rated Iowa’s 1st Congressional District as a “Toss Up.”

Hinson has a record of winning tough elections. She won in 2018 in a swing district to help hold the Iowa House majority and outperformed the Republican ticket by 5-8 points across House District 67. She won 9 of 13 precincts in House District 67 despite Democratic outside groups outspending Republican outside groups.
