Des Moines, IA – A very fresh face stars in Tom Latham’s second ad in his race for Iowa’s new Third Congressional District.  Kathy and Tom Latham’s fifth grandchild, Carson, takes center stage as a representative of the generations of children and grandchildren that are being saddled with the debt, doubt and despair created by an irresponsible Washington.

The thirty-second ad, which begins its broadcast run district-wide, features Tom Latham talking about the obligation we have to future generations to stop Washington’s spending and lead with the commonsense principles that Iowans expect from their elected leaders.

Latham’s positive ad discussing the important issues we face and his record in fighting for solutions is a stark contrast to the first ad of the cycle from Latham’s opponent, longtime Congressman Leonard Boswell.

“While Tom Latham respectfully discusses real issues with Iowans, longtime Congressman Leonard Boswell is repeating his well-known practice of nasty, negative campaigning,” noted campaign manager Annie Kelly.  “Tom Latham, who is a father, grandfather, farmer and former small businessman, is talking about his principled record of fighting for Iowans, but Leonard Boswell is doing anything he can to keep the focus off of his failed record.  Congressman Boswell is performing his infamous election year two-step routine to hide his ‘Washington Knows Best’ thinking of voting for bailouts that protected Wall Street over Iowa’s Main Streets, a failed stimulus that created more debt than jobs, and for embracing and promoting his budget plan that – according to the AFL-CIO – ‘doubles down on the same mistakes that drove our economy into a ditch in 2008.’”

The script of the thirty second ad, titled “Obligation”, follows:

How to understand the real world consequences of Washington spending?
Look at him – my fifth grandchild was born this year.
It saddens me to know that he’ll start life $50,000 in debt – he’ll pay the price of Washington’s reckless spending.
I voted against the wasteful stimulus and raising the debt limit, and I am fighting for a balanced budget.
I am Tom Latham and I approve this message because I believe we have an obligation to stop the spending.
