march-for-life

Iowa Right to Life organized the first annual Midwest March for Life to rally prolife activists prior to the 40 year anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision.  Approximately 500 (estimates I heard ranged from 250 to 2000) activists from across Iowa rallied on an unseasonably warm Saturday morning in January.  Governor Terry Branstad (R-IA) greeted the participants, Bishop Richard Pates of the Diocese of Des Moines offered the invocation.  Both Governor Branstad and Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds participated in the March.   The group then circled the Iowa State Capitol Building utilizing the symbolism of the Israelites marching around the walled city of Jericho.  Faith leaders lead the group in prayer at different points in the march.

Below is a video from the March, along with a brief interview at the end with Jen Bowen, executive director of Iowa Right to Life about why they decided to organize the march and what they hoped to gain.
