(Indianola, IA) State Representative Julian Garrett (R-Indianola) was selected as the Republican nominee in a special nominating convention held Thursday night for Iowa Senate District 13. The seat was vacated after State Senator Kent Sorenson resigned. Iowa Senate District 13 consists of most of Madison and Warren Counties.
Garrett won with 2/3 of the delegate votes after the first ballot. Other Republicans vying for the nomination were David Keagel, Steve McCoy, and Tamara Scott.
Iowa GOP Chairman A.J. Spiker congratulated Garett in a released statement late last night.
“I am pleased to welcome Julian Garrett as the official Republican nominee for this upcoming election in Senate District 13,” Spiker said. “Mr. Garrett has proven that he is a hard worker willing to go out and meet the people of his district and I look forward to helping his campaign.”
The date for the special election was set for November 19 by Governor Terry Branstad.
