Julian Garrett with A.J. Spiker(Indianola, IA) State Representative Julian Garrett defeated Democrat Mark Davitt to replace Kent Sorenson in yesterday’s special election in Iowa Senate District 13 which encompasses Warren and Madison Counties.  He won by a comfortable 19 point margin over Davitt (59.8% – 3908 to 40.1% – 2627).

Garrett will resign his Iowa House seat and Governor Terry Branstad will determine a special election date.  There will also be a special nominating convention called by Iowa GOP Chair A.J. Spiker in Iowa House District 25.

Spiker congratulated Garrett on the win.  “Julian Garrett worked hard to win this election and I’m pleased to hear of the results.  We were excited to work with him over the past month’s campaign and look forward to having him in the State Senate.”

The Iowa Senate remains split with Democrats maintaining a 26-24 majority.
