In the midst of  former Texas Governor Rick Perry trying to revamp his presidential campaign he loses one of his top advisers in Iowa.  Sam Clovis was Perry’s Iowa Co-Chair.  Tuesday night Donald Trump announced that Clovis has been hired as a national co-chair and senior policy advisor for his presidential campaign.

Clovis, is a professor of public administration at Morningside College in Sioux City, IA and a popular conservative activist. Clovis in 2014 also ran for U.S. Senate losing the nomination to now U.S. Senator Joni Ernst.  Clovis was nominated at convention for State Treasurer, but lost to incumbent Michael Fitzgerald.

Clovis will advise Trump on economic policy, national security and international relations as a member of Trump’s national campaign staff.  Clovis as a veteran Air Force fighter pilot will also shape policy that impacts veterans and military families, which has been one of the areas of focus for Trump’s campaign.

“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Clovis to our team and am confident he will be a great asset in Iowa and around the country as we continue to lead all local and national polls and share my vision to Make America Great Again!” Trump said in a released statement.

“I am humbled and honored to join the Trump team. As this campaign unfolds, voters will be able to see the differences between candidates based on the vision they have for America and the policies and ideas they deliver, and we will be leading the way,” Clovis added.
