Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and Lt. Governor Adam Gregg today announced the hiring of campaign staff, as well as, their 2018 campaign’s social media and website.

“I’m humbled to serve the people of Iowa as Governor. While I’m proud of our progress together, we won’t rest. Every day, we must work together to Build a Better Iowa, and a future filled with opportunity,” Reynolds said in a released statement “With today’s announcement we are laying the groundwork for the 2018 election, and that starts with a great team. I’m proud to have Phil Valenziano, Angie Hughes, and Matt Leopold leading our campaign team, and I look forward to sharing my vision for the future with all Iowans.”

“Governor Reynolds and I are honored to serve the people of Iowa, and we hope to continue to do so for a long time. We’re happy to add Phil Valenziano, Angie Hughes, and Matt Leopold to our team today. We’re confident that with their help, and the support of grassroots Iowans across our great state, we’ll have the opportunity to build a better Iowa for many years to come,” Gregg added.

Valenziano, a New Jersey native who is a veteran of gubernatorial and presidential campaigns, will serve as the campaign manager for the Reynolds-Gregg 2018 campaign. Valenziano previously served as a senior advisor for Reynolds. He also served as the Iowa Director for Chris Christie’s presidential campaign. In 2014 he was the political director for the Branstad-Reynolds gubernatorial campaign. He also served in various roles on the Romney-Ryan presidential campaign. He also worked for the Republican Party of Iowa.

Hughes, a native of Osceola, IA, will be the campaign finance director. Hughes came out of the private sector to serve but worked as a policy assistant for the Iowa House Majority Leader. She also served as the Iowa Director of the Unlocking Potential Project – a conservative grassroots initiative founded by Carly Fiorina, and a policy analyst for the Iowa Senate Republicans.

Leopold, a native of Mount Vernon, IA, will be the campaign’s political director. Leopold recently led the State Senate Republicans’ successful 2016 effort to reclaim the Senate Majority by picking up six seats, directed the Republican Party of Iowa’s 2016 legislative candidate recruitment efforts, and was a field director for the 2014 Branstad-Reynolds campaign. He also worked in Governor Branstad’s official office in 2015.

Reynolds and Gregg today said that it is their intent to run in 2018, but a formal announcement will come at a later date.
