Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker endorsed Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds for the Republican gubernatorial primary. He joins U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey who have publicly supported her campaign. Reynolds who was sworn in to replace former Iowa Governor Terry Branstad after he was confirmed as U.S. Ambassador to China faces a challenge from Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett and Boone Mayor Pro Tem Steven Ray. The Reynolds-Gregg campaign previously announced 1050 county chairs representing all of Iowa’s 99 counties.

Walker is currently the chairman of the Republican Governors Association whose mission is “to elect and support Republican governors.”

“Governor Reynolds is a strong leader whose bold vision promises a bright future for the people of Iowa. She works tirelessly for Iowa’s hard-working families, and I’m proud to endorse her and the common sense reforms she’s advancing in her state,” Walker said.

Reynolds issued the following statement before departing on an agricultural trade mission to China.

“Scott Walker is a great friend and governor, and his support means a lot as we build toward our run for governor,” Reynolds stated. “Gov. Walker’s leadership has transformed Wisconsin into a pro-jobs, high quality-of-life destination. His leadership has set the example for his fellow 33 Republican governors in the U.S.”

The Reynolds-Gregg campaign said Reynolds and Lt. Governor Adam Gregg are focused on building a better Iowa through four key priorities:

  • Creating a competitive business environment
  • Developing the most innovative energy policy in the country
  • Educating our children for the knowledge economy
  • Training Iowans for the jobs of tomorrow.

With the support of Iowans from all 99 counties, the campaign notes, they intend to build a firm foundation for the 2018 elections and help carry all Republicans to victory next fall.
