Billionaire Tom Steyer is the first casualty of the South Carolina Primary after a third place finish. He finished with 11.3 percent of the vote with, at the time of this writing, 59,815 voters supporting him. After spending $22 million in the state he fell below the 15 percent threshold needed to win any at-large delegates from the state, but could still win one or two district delegates.

Steyer spent $253 million on his campaign as of the end of January.

“I said if I didn’t see a path to winning that I would suspend my campaign, and honestly, I don’t see a path where I can win the presidency,” Steyer said during a primary night event in Columbia, S.C.

Steyer said he would support the eventual Democratic nominee because “every Democrat is a million times better than Trump.”

“When the Lord closes a door, he opens a window. I will find that window and crawl through it with you, I promise you that. I love you very much. This has been a great experience, I have zero regrets. Meeting you and the rest of the American people is the highlight of my life,” he continued.
