DES MOINES, Iowa – On Thursday, Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Susan Christensen issued a supervisory order, further delaying all trials due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her order states criminal nonjury trials scheduled before June 1 are to be rescheduled to a date after June 1. Criminal jury trials scheduled before July 13, are pushed back beyond that date. Trials, where the defendant is in custody who did not waive their right to a speedy trial, will have first priority.
All grand jury proceedings are postponed until July 13.
Civil nonjury trials are to be rescheduled no earlier than June 15, and civil jury trials scheduled before August 3 are to be scheduled no earlier than that date.
