Last week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi praised Senate Democrats for blocking a clean bill that would have added $250 Billion to the Paycheck Protection Program, a forgivable loan program for small businesses impacted by COVID-19.
The funds have run out.
βSo last week when they came and asked for a quarter of a trillion dollars in 48 hours, I said, βwell I donβt think, letβs see how we can open this up to many more people,’ So Chuck Schumer and I, this all happened on the Senate side and also I praise the Senate Democrats, they went to the floor when Mitch McConnell went in for this $250 (billion) and also they said they objected,” Pelosi said on MSNBC.
The same week, Pelosi showed off her ice cream stockpile on the late, late show with James Cordon that included pints from Jeni’s Ice Cream that goes for $12 a pint that filled up a very expensive freezer.
Those two clips found their way into a brutal ad targeting Pelosi released by the Trump campaign entitled, “Let them eat ice cream – Nancy Antoinette” a play on the famous quote (wrongly) attributed to Marie-Antoinette, married to French King Louis XVI, who upon hearing that the French subjects were without bread said, βQuβils mangent de la briocheβ or βLet them eat cake.β
Marie-Antoinette became the symbol of an insensitive monarchy that lived a lavish lifestyle while the French people suffered. The growing hatred of the monarchy led to the French Revolution where the Queen and her husband, Louis XVI, lost their heads years later.
