I had an opportunity after tonight’s Republican Party of Iowa event to speak with Congressman Steve King (R-IA).  Just said hi, thanked him for his service to Iowans, and said I hope we’ll get somebody like him serving in Iowa’s Third Congressional District.  I mentioned I was on bloggers row, and he talked about how great the internet has been in getting information out (something Congressman Ron Paul discussed in his speech).

I asked him if he does his own tweeting or if a staffer does it for him.  He said he does.  We talked about his “controversial” tweet about shooting the raccoon outside his house in February (something that PETA didn’t like so much).  He showed me the shell casing that he found when he raked his yard that he carries with him from time to time.  He also carries an Acorn with him to remind himself about how bad ACORN can be.  Then talked about guns which he admitted he isn’t the best shot (good enough for the raccoon though), but enjoys target practice with his son – even if they leave a bunch of grooves in his yard.

Maybe next time I meet with him we’ll talk about something substantial, but I hadn’t met him before and it was good to chat with him.
