Iowa’s Secretary of State, Matt Schultz, just announced this morning that he is endorsing Rick Santorum for President.  The Santorum campaign alluded to a big endorsement today, this would be it.  Schultz is an up and comer in the Republican Party in Iowa so this is a big get.

Schultz in a statement this morning said, “Senator Santorum is a strong advocate for faith, family, and freedom.  He has a solid track record as a social and fiscal conservative from his time serving in the US Senate and House of Representatives.  As a Republican from a blue state, he has the experience to win in tough elections. Senator Santorum shares my core conservative principles and I believe he should be the Republican candidate to take on President Obama.  That is why I am supporting Rick Santorum.”

8:00a 12/10/11 – Senator Santorum held a press conference to introduce Matt Schultz, Schultz explained why he was endorsing Santorum.  Afterwards members of the press and audience were able to ask questions of both men.  Schultz when asked if both Steve King and Bob Vander Plaats should endorse, he said they should and he would encouraging them to endorse Santorum.  Senator Santorum was asked why should we vote for a legislator rather than somebody who has experience as a Governor.  He gives an interesting answer.
