Michigan Congressman Thaddeus McCotter said that Iowans understand the future isn’t big government it is self government. He said today we live in a consumer economy, a free market.
Democrats are not progressive, they are regressive when they support big government. He said that government must be restructured for the modern age. McCotter criticizing the welfare mentality said, “You can not empower an individual by making them dependent upon another person that is wrong.”
Regarding the bank bailouts he said that “we should not have to pay for their failures.”
He also said that we are a nation at war, and while we can not bring them home as fast as our hearts desire they are expanding freedom and liberty to others.
On National Security he said we have to recognize that Communist China… he will not cave to a dictatorship which takes away liberty.
He said he would not let our liberty which has been bequeathed to us by our Creator to be taken away by a imperialist Federal society, by activist judges or the U.N.
Quick thoughts: I wasn’t able to keep up with him as well as I like, but I was impressed by how well he articulated the threat that exists in Communist China. He probably gave, in my estimation, the most substantive speech thus far. He started off slow (and rather dull), but ended well and gave a good introduction.
