(West Des Moines, IA) New York business mogul Donald Trump visited Iowa to headline a fundraiser for Congressman Steve King (R-IA) held in West Des Moines, IA. The fundraiser was closed to the press, but Trump and King held a press conference prior to the event on Saturday night. King said there were a number of issues that Trump and he had in common. He pointed to the nation’s southern border as being an issue they were like minded on.
“That common cause is that first we believe in a sovereign America and the rule of law,” King said. “If you look at the pillars of American exceptionalism, the components of why we are this great opportunity country, you can’t be that without the rule of law. If you allow it to be eroded by the President of the United States, primarily by his party, but not exclusively by his party you will see opportunity in America diminish and you will watch America become a third world country.”
“There are many reasons for us to secure the border. Rule of law is enough for me, but when you add to that the things that are coming at us from across the border it would be 80-90% of the illegal drugs consumed in America, the unaccompanied alien juveniles that are coming in at the age, of 83% of them, 15, 16, and 17-years-old – prime gang recruitment age, 80% male from the six of the most violent countries in the world are south of Mexico. That is a threat to us, but on top of that we’ve got ISIS which has been interdicted on our southern border,” King added.
He highlighted reports from WorldNetDaily and Congressman Louie Gohmert of two different instances where ISIS tried to come into the United States from Mexico. He also cited the paralysis disease – D68 which has come into the states specifically where the unaccompanied alien minors have been sent. King stated that the biggest threat of all is Ebola.
King also noted that the debate over the platform and principles of the party will accelerate right after the midterm elections. His hope is that Midwestern values could be carried by a presidential candidate out of Iowa on to New Hampshire and South Carolina in 2016.
Trump endorsed King’s reelection bid saying that he is someone who is respected all over the country.
Trump said that he and King were of the same mind on Ebola. “Stop the flights,” Trump said. “We have to stop the flights (from West Africa).” He said this point was so obvious that “you wouldn’t even understand the other side or where they are coming from.”
When asked Trump did not close the door on a possible bid for President in 2016. “We’ll see what happens. Right now we have a President who has done such a poor job, such a horrible job. We’ll see who is running, and we’ll see what happens first of all in the next month as it will be very interesting. After that we’ll make a decision,” Trump said.
If he doesn’t run he didn’t name anyone specifically whom he would support. “We need somebody very smart and very tough, and we need a great one because we are so far behind the eight ball good isn’t good enough. We need a great President the next time. We have a lot of ground to make up, tremendous ground has been lost,” Trump added. “I want to see somebody who is going to make our country great again which is basically the same thing as Steve.”
