(Des Moines, IA) Former U.S. Senator and 2012 Iowa Caucus winner Rick Santorum (R-PA) after the Fox News/Google GOP Presidential Undercard debate discussed why his campaign didn’t seem to be catching on.

“You know, one of the reasons we ended up doing well (in 2012) we started to pick up just a little bit at the end. We had some numbers pop just a little bit and we were able to go out and say, ‘hey look we’ve got some momentum’ and people would say ‘oh I like him,’ and I hear this all of the time on our calls, ‘Oh we really like you, we would support you, but we’re not sure you can win,'” Santorum said.

“Why are they not sure I can win? Because nobody ever talks about Rick Santorum, nobody is, nobody is ever saying ‘wow, maybe this guy has a chance. He has a platform that actually Iowans are in sync with.’ I mean the other day Fox they listed some issue and asked who do you agree with most? Guess who was at the top? Me. The bottom line is that, as I mentioned, firms who are in the business, who want to sell newspapers, want to get hits on their website and want people to show up at their TV so they are going to go with what people want to watch and right now people are very fascinated by somebody else in this race that is drawing all that attention and I feel like I’m running a marathon breathing through a swizzle stick. And that’s a tough thing to do, but we’re still here,” he added.

Santorum did add he had 20 more town halls to do leading up the Iowa Caucus. “We’ll just keep working hard and you’ll see me at a Pizza Ranch in your neighborhood,” Santorum stated.
