With most New Hampshire press attention turned toward the February 9 presidential primary, a state legislative committee quietly voted 9-7 Tuesday to reject HB 1627. This state-level Born-Alive Infant Protection bill seeks to ensure appropriate care for children who survive attempted abortion.
The same committee on a 9-8 vote later rejected a bill to ban dismemberment abortions.
The bills will go to the full House, probably next week, for a vote on the “inexpedient-to-legislate” committee reports.
New Hampshire law currently bans partial-birth abortion – a measure enacted over a 2012 gubernatorial veto. A parental notification law was passed in 2011, also over a veto. No other abortion regulation is in place in the Granite State.
