I remember the first time I met Congressman Steve King (R-IA). It was after an Iowa GOP event years ago. He was one of the last to leave after talking to all who wanted to chat with him. This is something he does frequently I have learned over the years. He showed me an acorn he kept in his pocket at the time. This was following the release of the ACORN videos that showed corruption in that organization following President Barack Obama’s election to his first term in the White House, and he was a leading voice against the corruption in that organization. He said it helped remind him to continually fight.
When I see Steve King, I see a fighter.
Congressman King is a conservative stalwart. He is a champion of conservative values, and a tireless defender of the Constitution. He has been a principled voice for fiscal disciple, sound national security policy, religious liberty, life and marriage. He is a Constitutionalist, and the U.S. House of Representatives needs more people like Steve King.
When I see Steve King, I also see a consistent, reliable advocate of conservative principles.
He has waiver on the issues that matter most, and he has stood for Iowa values even if it meant butting up against his own party leadership. He has remembered that he went to Washington to serve the people in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District, not K Street, Wall Street or party bosses in DC.
If that gives establishment Republicans and special interests in Iowa heartburn, all the better.
I generally believe contested primaries are a good thing, and no incumbent candidate should be above being challenged. The primary challenge that Congressman King faces this year is not a principled one, but punitive. It is not in response to dissatisfaction of grassroots Republicans, but special interest elites. I believe this particular primary challenge should be rejected outright.
Congressman Steve King deserves to be sent back to Washington, DC so he can continue to work hard on behalf of Iowa’s 4th Congressional District, all Iowans and the American people. I wholeheartedly, without reservation, endorse Congressman Steve King.
