DES MOINES, Iowa – On Friday evening, President Donald Trump on Twitter endorsed State Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Marion, in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District and former U.S. Rep. David Young in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District. Both candidates have a contested primary for the Republican nomination in each of their districts.

“Ashley Hinson (@hinsonashley) will be a tremendous advocate for the People of Iowa! She will fight for our Military, Vets, Small Businesses, & our Incredible Farmers—a true supporter of our #MAGA Agenda! Ashley has my Complete and Total Endorsement!” Trump tweeted in his endorsement of Hinson.

“David Young (@YoungForIowa) is a champion for Iowa! He helped us pass the Trump Tax Cuts and he will always fight for our Small Businesses, Military, the Second Amendment and our Great Farmers! David has my Complete & Total Endorsement!” he tweeted in his endorsement of Young.

It is unclear whether or not Trump will endorse in the Republican primary for Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District and Iowa’s 4th Congressional District. Both districts have five-way primaries for the Republican nomination.

Iowa’s primary is on June 2, but eligible voters can currently vote by mail. The Iowa Secretary of State’s office mailed every Iowan a ballot request form and the deadline for county auditors to receive those forms was 5:00p today. Mail-in ballots not received by the county auditor on June 2, must be postmarked June 1 or earlier and received by a voter’s county auditory no later than 12:00 pm on June 8.
