Gird your loins, the general election race is now underway.  Current Governor Chet Culver’s campaign released their first ad last week attacking former Governor Terry Branstad’s accounting practices:

Friday the Branstad campaign released their counter:

Contrasting these two ads I find it striking that Governor Culver could not point to anything in his record, but former Governor Branstad can.  Governor Culver’s administration has been marked by runaway spending, gross administrative incompetence in putting together a budget, an inability to govern, and a failed I-Jobs program which has put Iowans into debt.

We shouldn’t be surprised though looking at how he ran the Secretary of State office.  Reducing the price tag of money owed the federal government from $2.5 million to $575,000 isn’t exactly something to jump for joy about (shouldn’t you make sure your books are in order before you attack somebody else for the exact same thing?  Just saying).

I think Governor Culver needs to find something else to run on, because the way things look now, he’s toast which is a good thing.  Four more years of a Culver administration would surely bankrupt us.
