Greg Koukl from Stand to Reason wrote an excellent article about same sex marriage that I encourage you to read. One of the better apologetic pieces that I have seen on th subject.
Church Offers Abstinence Lessons to Public School Students When I was a youth pastor in Valparaiso, IN I interacted with a organization – PATH, Inc. (Positive Approach to Teen Health) that also taught abstinence in the public schools. Awesome, awesome program. I’m sure that the ACLU is going bonkers over this particular program.
Another church is experiencing zoning board woes. The Christian Post reports that Applewood Baptist Church in Wheat Ridge, CO is being denied the ability to expand their facilities by the Wheat Ridge City Council. This is a growing trend. I recently blogged about this problem when Christ Church in New Jersey was experiencing problems with […]
Christian Smith, who is the Christian Smith is William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Sociology at the University of Notre Dame, author of Soul Searching: The Religious and Spiritual Lives of American Teenagers (Oxford Univ. Press), and principal investigator of the National Study of Youth and Religion wrote an interesting article for Christianity Today: Books […]
Great question poised by the Sex Offender Issues Blog. I’d be curious to hear what you think. Our ministry works with a lot of young sex offenders. I struggle with the answer to that – it depends on the hat I’m wearing – Dad or SOY Staff. Please share your opinion by posting a comment. […]
With high-definition TV everything looks bigger and wider. Kind of like going to your 25th high school reunion.
I just read an interesting article on Christian Post about multi-site churches. There are a lot of growing churches that are multi-site – Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, IL and LifeChurch, an Evangelical Covenant Church based in Edmund, OK (voted one of the most innovative churches by Outreach […]
Following Governor Culver’s lead, the Iowa Senate Human Resources Committee is discussing a bill, SF 115, the “Stem Cell Research and Cures Initiative”. The name and language in this bill is very misleading. What it really does is repeals the “Human Cloning Ban (Iowa Code 707B), a bipartisan piece of legislation that was signed into […]
Well, I was disappointed that my Bears lost, but some of the commercials were entertaining. Bud Light has to be the King of Super Bowl Ads. Here are a few of my favorites that they put out this year. Just a disclaimer, this is NOT a endorsement of their product, just their creativity!
I discovered this Nooma video clip on You Tube. Rob Bell, the founding pastor at Mars Hill Bible Church in Grandville, MI, does a great job challenging us to rethink what it means to be rich. We need to reach out to those who are improverished with the love of Christ. With clean water and […]
Interesting post on the Evangelical Outpost blog.
From the article at the Christian Post: Hmmm. Ridiculous? What do you think? It seems weird to allow bars to show it, but have problems with churches that show it on the big screen. Also one of the churches mentioned was asking for a admission to cover the cost of food, not compensation to watch […]
From an article in the Chicago Tribune. Governor Perry’s actions and what Merck is doing could influence what is done in Iowa as well. I have some real reservations about this on a variety of different levels. Will this encourage more girls to engage in pre-marital sex? Does this infringe on parental rights, another example […]
Mary Katharine Ham recently posted her weekly “HamNation” video that exposes a not so kind and gentle side of environmentalists gone amuck.
Cheryl discovered that Morgan had decided to do a little video work with our digital camera. He shot five 30-second slient clips (since the camera doesn’t record sound). Interesting. This definitely confirms what his mother and I already believed, that the boy is a little off kilter. For some reason he has a tremendous aversion […]
Ok, looking at my Weather Bug – it’s 13 degrees Farenheit in Des Moines, the low tonight is supposed to be -7. The high tomorrow is only 5 above zero. Our high on Sunday is 5, and our low is -10 Curiousity got the better of me, and I checked out Nome, AK on the […]
